Tips for optimal timing detection when running

Most of the event uses RFID stick on running bib to provide results.

As such it is important for all participants to understand how to minimize the chances of missing detection during a race.

  1. Understand that RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. Typically, RFID system in running events uses Ultra High Frequency (UHF) with specific range between 850MHz - 950MHz. These bands are not exclusive to just RFID, thus the possibility of interference.
  2. Remove any plastic that comes with the bib, this will allow the sponge spacer to expand, thus making space between the RFID chip and t-shirt/body (that is normally wet).
  3. Always wear your bib on the front of your shirt, centered just below your chest. This ensures visibility for race officials and photographers, ensuring the RFID chip to function optimally.
  4. Make sure your running bib is not block (have line of sight) to the antennas (mainly mats or side antennas). This means to make sure your bib is not block by your running belt, bag, jackets, etc.
  5. Avoid Wrinkles, Folds, or Curves on your bib, there is a possibility of signal distortion.
  6. Try not to stop your watch when crossing the finish line/timing mat. Your watch may be sending out signals as well that may causes Electromagnetic Interference (EMI).
  7. Having phone in your pouch near to your running bib may not be a good idea as you are probably aware that your phone is sending signals.

We hope these tips will make your running experience smoother!
